Los Angeles County Office of Traffic Safety Partners to Prevent Injury Caused by Reckless Driving

Reckless driving is one of the most common dangers Americans face. Responsible citizens wonder what can be done to prevent senseless tragedy. All in all, they tend to keep the personal injury attorney firms very busy in many parts of the country, such as Los Angeles.
Jimy Tallal delivered a report Wednesday, May 5, 2010 for the Malibu Times under the headline; Sheriff’s Dept. to increase traffic, DUI patrols. Tallal reports that the Sheriff’s Department has announced that summer patrols, DUI checkpoints and decoy cars will be added to curb reckless driving in the Lost Hills, Malibu area. Also, the citizens group ASPCH plans to launch a safety campaign.
Following a spate of recent fatal traffic accidents, Lost Hills/Malibu Sheriff’s Station Captain Joseph Stephen said Monday that the station has partnered with the Los Angeles County Office of Traffic Safety to secure four additional “DUI saturation patrols” throughout the summer on Pacific Coast Highway to help prevent the fatal personal injury crashes..
The announcement was made by Stephen, along with Lost Hills Sgt. Phil Brooks, during a meeting of A Safer Pacific Coast Highway, or ASPCH, a community-driven group that was formed after the death of 13-year-old Emily Rose Shane last month. Should you need a Los Angeles personal injury attorney then I can suggest this firm and also an accident lawyer as well. They can help with traumatic brain, bike, car, motorcycle and car accident cases in general.
The additional patrols will start on Memorial Day. The joint venture between the Sheriff’s station and the Office of Traffic Safety will also provide backing for two additional DUI checkpoints in Malibu in addition to those already planned. Also, two more black and white decoy Sheriff’s cars will be used in the city commencing this week. The funds come from The Office of Traffic Safety, or OTS, which has grant money that it allocates on a case-by-case basis.
Tallal writes that Stephen reported that the Sheriff’s Department wrote up a staggering 13,000 traffic citations in Malibu during 2009 and has written 2,179 tickets so far this year. Tallal notes that Lost Hills Sheriff’s Deputy John Young alone writes an average of 2,800 tickets per year.
Tallal reports, “The traffic enforcement index for Malibu (the number of hazardous citations for speeding, etc., divided by the number of DUIs and accidents) is “off the chart” compared to other communities, Stephen said.”
The citizen’s group, ASPCH meets every Monday. The meetings are open to the community in order to come up with ways to make the highway safer. Local city and safety officials, as well as Caltrans officials, are asked to speak to members at the meetings.
On Monday, residents wondered if more traffic lights might be installed along the highway, and asked about the possibility of reducing the speed limit.

The Strange Story of the Vindictive Englishman Out to Get His Dentist

I just got back from Bergen County and Hillsdale in Northern new Jersey but I thought it was time to get writing. have a strange addiction to reading overseas news, and I enjoy generally odd or eccentric stories. The recent true tale of the Pembrokeshire, England man, out to get his dentist is a perfect example.
Peter McShane, 84 years old, of Pembroke Dock, Pembrokeshire, appeared at the Swansea Crown Court after confessing to making a phoney bomb.
The elderly man who planted the hoax bomb in a revenge plot against a dentist at the Bush Street dental surgery said he felt the doc had overcharged him. He was billed 183 for dental work done in 2007. Wondering how much 183 is? In U.S. money the amount translates to $282.35.
The judge remarked to Mr. McShane that only his age had kept him out of jail. I think the judge should have given him time for being old enough to know better. Should you be in need of a Bergen County dentist then i can recommend these guys, as they are indeed among the very top dentists in bergen county as well as Emerson, Oradell and harrington park. they are great at teeth whitening, invisalign, etc. Just a good family and cosmetic dentist and they cover old tappan also.
McShanes ticking device, left outside the Bush Street dental surgery in Pembroke Dock, caused a major police operation involving army bomb disposal experts, with streets and homes in the area evacuated.
McShane’s act was caught on CCTV camera and he was compelled to admit being responsible for planting the hoax bomb and vandalism.
In Britain, by the way, security cameras are posted at sites everywhere. They are more common than anywhere in the world. Thats what Terrorists do for society.
In this day and age when bombs and terrorism often strike such fear and panic, old Mr. McShane received only a 34-week suspended jail sentence and a curfew order.
And that wasnt all he did to the Bush dental surgery. He also super-glued locks to the surgery doors, and spray-painted the building with black paint. He stole a plaque.
This is his nature. Hes done other things to punish people who offended him in the past.
For example, he also admitted vandalism against tenants who rented flats from him at Ettrick House in Law Street in the town. He said he burgled one of the flats a decade ago and he stole four radiators.
His barrister (isnt that word quaint—see why I love these stories?), Georgina Buckley, was quoted as saying: “He is now extremely remorseful. He had not fully appreciated what he was doing. Now, he is shocked by his behaviour.”
Judge Keith Thomas was quoted as saying to Mr. McShane that he was a vindictive man

Miami Florida Investigation Probes Misspending of Funds by State GOP Chairman

In Miami and Washington criminal defense related news, Jim Greer, who resigned as state party chairman in January is one the defense amid accusations that he misspent party funds in a possibly criminal or at least unethical manner, is being targeted in an investigation, according to a political source.
Jane Sutton wrote the Reuters report featured in the Washington Post’s news website. The piece titled; Criminal probe targets ex-GOP chief in Florida, was posted March 31, 2010. If looking at a Miami criminal Attorney you can consider this firm, they handle Florida tax issues, Ft. Lauderdale tax lawyer and of course various criminal defense cases in Miami.
According to state officials and local media, Florida has begun a criminal investigation into the state Republican party’s recently deposed chairman and a company he covertly hired to raise donations.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement avoided mentioning Greer by name by saying in a statement that it was investigating “possible criminal activity surrounding a former senior official of the Republican Party of Florida and Victory Strategies, LLC.”
Greer was the majority owner of Victory Strategies and that the company profited from a secret contract that paid it commissions on money raised for the party– the Orlando Sentinel newspaper reported.
Jane Sutton noted that Greer could not be reached for comment but had already denied misspending party funds. Because he is seen as a moderate, he claimed in January that he had been wrongly accused by party conservatives who were conducting an ideological purge that threatened to split the party before critical November elections. This reminds me of some Washington criminal defense news, come to think of it.
Sutton explained that the investigation comes at a time when the party is already faced with embarrassing revelations about spending by the Republican National Committee. Thousands of dollars were spent on lavish hotels and paid $1,946 for meals at a West Hollywood nightclub that included topless dancers and bondage themes. For their part, a solid Washington criminal defense attorney could help and I do recommend the preceding
criminal attorney for sure as they are very good and can handle a very wide array of various criminal defense cases in the state of Washington in general.Currently a Republican candidate for governor, Florida Attorney General Bill McCollum said the current Florida party chairman, John Thrasher, had given him information two weeks ago from the state party’s financial audit, which was filed on Wednesday with state election supervisors.
McCollum was quoted as saying, “This information indicates there may have been criminal activity surrounding a former senior official of the Republican Party of Florida and a company called Victory Strategies, LLC. Upon learning this very serious and concerning information, I immediately referred the matter to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.”
McCollum, Thrasher and the FDLE said they could not comment further because of the ongoing criminal investigation.

Los Angeles County D. A. May Reopen 1994 Shooting as Criminal Case

The Los Angeles Times reported a story under the headline, 1994 Shooting May Be Reopened as a Homicide Case. The story published yesterday, March 25, 2010, was written by Kate Linthicum.
Apparently Lisa La Pierre was shot and paralyzed in West Hollywood fifteen years ago. Heartbreakingly, Lisa died in January of this year. Now the gang member, Frank Antoine Lewis, now 30–who was only 14 years old at the time–pleaded guilty to attempted murder may face new charges in the criminal defense case. He has already served time in a juvenile jail.
The Los Angeles County coroner’s office cannot make the call whether or not to bring new charges until an autopsy determines if the death was caused by the shooting. Linthicum writes in her article that initially, Lisa La Pierre’s death was listed as a homicide, according to John Kades, a spokesman for the Los Angeles County coroner’s office. Switching gears for a second, if you find yourself in need of a qualified Los Angeles criminal defense attorney or even perhaps a dui lawyer in Southern California or Los Angeles then Ramiro Luis may be your man.
Investigators now await the results from the autopsy, “which should be imminent,” Kades was quoted as saying. He added, “The question is, did that attack contribute to her death in any way, shape or form?”
The article quoted Det. Dave Gunner, of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, who has spent the last two months reviewing the case in the event that it is reopened as a homicide investigation. Gunner explained, “The circumstances surrounding the case are very complex…….”
Linthicum reports that Stanford University law Professor Robert Weisberg said Supreme Court precedents would allow the district attorney to prosecute Lewis for La Pierre’s death, even though Lewis already served time for the shooting.
He said further that such a scenario would not be double jeopardy, because at the time of the initial trial, prosecutors could not have charged Lewis with the higher charge of murder because La Pierre was still alive.
According to Weisberg, prosecutors would have a tough job to prove that the shooting caused La Pierre’s death, since she went on to live for 15 years after the accident.
Weisberg was quoted as saying, “The legal standard for causation would be incredible mushy…”
Linthicum quotes Weisberg’s words to describe the fact that Lewis was a juvenile at the time of the crime as “another bizarre, complicating factor,” which could make it difficult for the prosecution to try him as an adult. Well, either way, he had better have a pretty good criminal defense attorney over there.

Consider Microdermabrasion as a Non-Invasive Treatment to Improve Skin

Cosmetic surgery has really been on the rise lately, particularly procedures such as breast implants as well as augmentation or reconstruction. Naturally our skin is aging all the time, exposed as it is to all kinds of environmental elements each day. One of the biggest agers is the sun, but pollution, and other factors rack up visible effects on your skin. Microdermabrasion is a treatment that can minimize or eliminate wrinkles and fine lines, “crow’s feet,” age spots, light acne scars, and unwanted color changes.
How does it work? Microdermabrasion is a non-chemical, non-invasive treatment that uses a spray of microcrystals to remove the outermost layer of dry, dead skin cells, leaving younger, healthier-looking skin. Another great bonus of the procedure is that is also triggers the production of a new underlying layer of skin cells containing more collagen and elastin, which further enhance the skin’s appearance. Microdermabrasion is actually gentler than dermabrasion. Dermabrasion is used to improve deeper lines, more serious sun damage, and scars. Of course, you can also get scar tissue from breast implants plus reconstruction, enhancement and general breast enlargement and augmentation, with implants of course being very popular overall.
Who Should Consider Microdermabrasion? If you have good health, and your expectations are realistic, you may be a good candidate. If you think it will make you look ten years younger, you may be disappointed. If you’re looking for a nice, but probably modest change, you’ll probably be well-pleased. It’s great for those who do not have enough available time to undergo more invasive skin resurfacing treatments like dermabrasion, laser skin resurfacing, or chemical peels. The cost for Microdermabrasion varies according to how extensive the microdermabrasion needs to be, the number of treatments required to achieve desired results, what the particular physician charges, and the geographic region where the treatment is administered. is less than that of some other cosmetic options for facial renewal-types of treatments, such as a face lift.
Another thing I like about dermabrasion is that it is apparently a safe, non-surgical, quick procedure that provides many benefits. It reduces or eliminates fine facial lines, wrinkles, and other signs of aging; it improves the appearance of acne scars and other light scarring. It can be used for skin of all colors and types, producing a healthy-looking glow to the skin.
Experienced providers say it accomplishes all this with virtually no side effects. Also, it uses non-allergenic crystals, and it is an excellent treatment for skin that is sensitive to chemicals.
Reportedly, microdermabrasion is safe when it is performed by an appropriate provider. You may have a slight skin irritation following treatment. But, since people are all unique, our experiences are never just alike, whether for breast implants or whatever else you do.

Candle-for-a-Coin Practice Nixed by Cardinal

Candles are an important feature in Catholic Churches, services, and ceremonies, especially in the one I used to go to over in North Carolina. That one had some nice custom or designer made furnite as well. The candles that flicker in shrines throughout the Roman Catholic world represent many things and enhance the religious experience. They may represent the flame of devotion, sacred enlightenment, faith, unity, reverence, and many other transcendent elements of worship. When you have them, you really do not even need the designer lighting or anything like that actually.
It has been said that each candle is to the worshipper a symbol of prayer, sacrifice, joy or sorrow. It has also been noted that a candle is a material thing, however, and costs money. So in some churches it is a practice to set a box of candles by every shrine, let the faithful help themselves and leave a small offering in repayment. I suppose I tend to prefer gel candles but I know some people who are more partial to other kinds. Oh well, to each his own I suppose. I also tend to like large and also the other types so go figure.
Interestingly, this practice was recently banned in the diocese of Rome by the vicar general, Francesco Cardinal Marchetti-Selvaggiani. The cardinal has determined that there is to be no more of this candle in exchange for money.
Candles will be burnt as before but gone will be the practice of giving a friend a coin and asking that a candle be burnt. Gone will be the practice of photographing sacred functions, and gone will be the joyful decorating of shrines with tacky artificial flowers.
Cardinal Marchetti-Selvaggiani has been quoted as saying, “The present use of candles can easily take on the appearance of superstition……” To change the subject for aquick momment, if you are looking for a top notch North Carolina Furniture direct source then I can certainly suggest to you this fine resource. Although based in North Carolina they are world class and also feature custom furniture, Lorts, Leathercraft, designer lighting and even some good Shabby Chic Furniture as well.
However, not all Catholic dioceses are following Rome’s example. However, it has also been said that they will doubtless pay attention to it and look within their churches with an equal seriousness, for Rome’s guideline comes from the vicar of Rome’s Bishop, who, it has been noted, is Pope Pius XI, vicar of Jesus Christ.
Historically, the candles used in the church have been made traditionally of beeswax, for bees were once thought if as to be virginal. The paschal candle represents Christ’s flesh, its wick His soul, its flame, Divinity.
On Candlemas Day (Feast of the Purification, Feb. 2) there is a ceremony for blessing candles. In other traditions, a burning candle is placed in the hand of a person at baptism, and as Death comes. Like I said, you do not even need custom or designer lighting when you have these, which is cool.

More turning to a Cosmetic Surgeon

I just returned from San Diego, land of the sun and youth, The truth is that age bias is rampant, and in this currently tough job market people feel like they need to look as young and fresh as possible to compete for the short supply of jobs. Eyelid surgery (called blepharoplasty) is used to reshape your eyelids. It can remove bags and tighten lose skin around the eyelids. It will not, however, remove fine wrinkle lines. Swelling and bruising can occur afterward, and can sometimes last for a week or two. The bruises usually fade in a week to 10 days. Vision can be blurry for a few days after the operation. You could experience some tearing up, or conversely, experience dry eyes. Fees for this procedure can run from around $2,000, but can surpass $4,000, depending on the surgeon and the extent of the reshaping. Tummy tuck is also popular these days. You might need a san diego cosmetic surgeon
And of course, breast enhancement and augmentation are a perennial favorite. Aslo breast lift and implants plus tumescent liposuction, botox and rhinoplasty, etc. They consist of saline-filled bags placed in between your breast tissue and your chest muscles, or between your chest muscles and your chest wall. Typically, you should be able to get out of bed a day or following surgery, but you most likely won’t be able to bathe for three days to a week. Many feel well enough to return to work after about a week. The fee of this procedure runs around $3,000, but again varies. Some need a mommy makeover from a good cosmetic surgeon as well.

Protecting Consumers Against Predatory Credit Practices and More

Barack Obama has had a proposal for on the table since last summer that is a sweeping package of financial reforms including the creation of a stand-alone agency that would regulate virtually all credit, savings and payment products offered by U.S. banks and some nonbank financial institutions.
The Federal Reserve, Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. and Office of the Comptroller of the Currency would still regulate banks, but their powers to regulate consumer products would be entrusted to a new Consumer Financial Products Agency. Predatory practices have caused a lot of problems such as causing a lot of people to get debt help, credit counseling, Debt consolidation and management, as well as simple debt relief.
The agency would not have the power to set a limit on interest rates. However, it could establish sound financial practices, such as require at least a 20 percent down payment on home loans or, as Douglas Elliot of the Brookings Institution has been quoted as saying—“require lenders to provide a two-page summary of a mortgage that would be clear to anyone who read it.” Teaser rates on mortgages or adjustable rate mortgages might be banned altogether. “I’m not saying it will do these things,” Elliott says, but it would have the power to do so. At least this may cut down on the number of people who need to get credit counseling and/or Debt consolidation.
Last December, the House passed a financial-services reform bill that incorporated most of Obama’s proposals including the new agency. There were no Republican votes.
But when the bill hit the Senate, the real trouble began. Even though Senate banking committee Chairman Chris Dodd, D-Conn., had proposed a bill in November that was similar to Obama’s proposal, he ended up rescinding it. He then started negotiations with Republican committee members. I mean, anything to cut down on the high Debt consolidation and default rates out there.

Art Nouveau a Complex Movement in Jewelry and Other Artistic Expressions

I am not a big jewelry person exept for the occasional gold chain, techno master watch and other bling bling jewelry, but Art Nouveau jewelry fascinates me. Art Nouveau literally means new art. It is an intricate and innovative European style of the 1880’s and 1890’s, and into the first decade of the twentieth century.
The term Art Nouveau comes from a shop owned by the dealer Siegfried Bing in Paris in 1896, called La Maison de l’Art Nouveau.
The Art Nouveau period transcended mere style, and was truly a movement. It was a movement in all forms of art and architecture, and included interior design, furniture, glass, pottery, textiles, art posters and book illustration. Part of its fascination for me lies in its naturalistic and stylistic curving and undulating lines, known as whiplash curves. I have noticed that most young folks today are moving more towards stuff like a Techno Master Watch diamond earrings, hip hop or icy items, 10k Gold Pendants and the venerable Diamond G Shock Watches as well.
The Symbolist Movement of the 1880s ignited the Art Nouveau. In this period religious mysticism and eroticism inspired some of the elements of Arts and Crafts philosophy. It was varied and asymmetrical and it has been said that it reflected the political climate of unease of the period. It has been written that Art Nouveau shows traces of in the Pre-Raphaelites artworks.
The 18th-century poet William Blake used the expression in his execution of surface decoration. The naturalistic elements of curving lines were based on the sinuous curves of plant forms and a transcended into fantasy.
But back to Art Nouveau jewelry; the decorative style was uniquely effective in jewelry, as well as metalwork, glassware, and book illustration. Even the influence of Japanese prints is woven into the tapestry-like feeling. It has been written that the seductive nymph of Pre-Raphaelite paintings is iconic Art Nouveau. Just do not forget those techno master watches.
Further, it has been said that Art Nouveau was a key development in the history of art, especially in architecture. It was iconoclastic in that it rejected conventional style and introduced a new era in art in industry. The powerful influence of it can be seen in the most modern art and architecture.
